For those who need it, you can begin with ‘Creating a Writing Practice’ and ‘Simple Ways to Write Every Day,’ plus a few breaths of inspiration and humour (always!).
If you are already an experienced writer, you can skip straight to Chapter One, where you will be guided through the essentials of memoir: what distinguishes it from autobiography or journal writing, why memoir is not simply ‘here’s what happened to me’ [this is critical!], the concept of ‘sky writing’ [equally critical!] and what we need to consider and address for our story to be of interest and value to others.
Chapter Two examines the gift of ‘working small’—even (and especially) when working with large themes or projects. You’ll learn to focus your story in powerful ways and keep yourself from becoming overwhelmed as you write. As always, this chapter offers a variety of examples, author interviews and reading recommendations, as well as links to places where you can find inspiration and/or publish your work.
Chapter Three, the final chapter of the Memoir Morsel, looks at the themes of Separation and Transformation, two of the most essential (and often overlooked) elements of any successful memoir.
This is a small but mighty morsel! And it will offer you the tools and understanding you need to craft your memoir with clarity, direction and purpose.
